Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
